In the past week we lost one of Hip Hop’s true legends. Keith Elam AKA GURU one of the originators of the incredible hip hop group Gangstarr, passed away on the 19th of April 2010. A truly sad day for music. I’ve been into Gangstarr ever since I saw DJ Premier talking on the documentary “Scratch” in 2001. After that I bought my decks and i’ve been DJing ever since. Perhaps the stuff I play has changed, but I still absolutely love the Old Skool hip hop sound. Gangstarr being one of my favourites from my collection. So with this in mind i’m posting two of my favourite Gangstarr songs. The first:
Just to get a rep – Pretty sure the first time I heard this was on the Playstation 1 game Thrasher. The song is so good, and Guru is absolutely flawless.
The second: Above the clouds (feat. Inspectah Deck) – Absolutely love the sample, so chilled.
RIP Guru, you will live on forever through your music. Makes me smile everytime I hear it…
